For some, Buffett concert failed to meet expectations | Chron.com - Houston Chronicle

For some, Buffett concert failed to meet expectations | Chron.com - Houston Chronicle: "I would say the Jimmy Buffett concert at Minute Maid Park was a little disappointing. I can understand Dr. Utley being ill (clearly he didn't take the right kind of weather with him to wherever he caught the bug), but there were a few other people missing from the stage as well. For example, the brass section was down to one person instead of the usual three. Mac McAnally trying to play the piano with a guitar strapped on was tough, although he did a fairly good job with the few chops he had to hit on the keyboard.

The sound was uneven. At times the music drowned out the lyrics and, as we all know, Jimmy's songs are 75 percent lyrics and 25 percent melody. Not sure if it was first-stop-of-the-tour logistical problems or lack of rehearsal time.

Still, a really good concert. The new songs are great. In fact the album is one of his best since License to Chill and a step above Beach House on the Moon. Who says you have to know the old Buffett songs to enjoy being a Parrothead? To those folks I say 'breathe in, breathe out, move on.'

Note to Drayton: Please ask the beer vendors not to hawk beverages during the concert. They tried to do it quietly but still, it's not a ballgame when Buffett is singing and the Coral Reefers are playing in centerfield"
