Parrot Heads PHlock together to party with a purpose

The Walton Sun: "Twice a month, a group of people decked out in bright, tropical clothing gather at different restaurants and bars in the Destin and Panama City area to listen to music, drink, dance and have fun.
Sounds usual. However, members of this group have an angle to partying, which they believe sets them apart.
Parrot Heads are proud to be known for “partying with a purpose.” Their partying leads to fundraising for charitable organizations.
Mike Schneider of Destin is past president and one of 20 charter members of the Emerald Coast Parrot Head Club, which was chartered in 2000. He had never been a member of the Parrot Heads before, but he is a big fan of Jimmy Buffet music and the laid-back lifestyle he sings about.
“It’s a fun group,” said Schneider, “a light-hearted group. I like that it’s musical and its tropical theme and that it helps area groups. Members are really active in the community.”
The ECPHC, based in Destin, boasted 581 members last year and was the third largest in the Parrot Head Nation. It is a non-profit corporation and supports local environmental causes through fundraising and volunteering. Centered around the tropical spirit of Jimmy Buffett's music, social functions incorporate that flavor and coastal philosophy into the group’s twice monthly meetings. “PHlockings” are usually held at F"
