Milton Street Out of Mayor's Race

6abc.com: Milton Street Out of Mayor's Race: "PHILADELPHIA (AP) - March 6, 2007 - The flamboyant older brother of Philadelphia Mayor John Street says he's giving up on running for mayor himself. Milton Street says he will run for an at-large City Council seat instead."
Milton Street, who is black, says he hopes two of the three major black candidates for mayor will abandon their bids so as not to divide the black vote.

The major black candidates in the May 15th Democratic primary are Congressman Chaka Fattah, state Represenative Dwight Evans and former City Councilman Michael Nutter. All three are running against two major white candidates: Congressman Bob Brady and businessman Tom Knox.

The winner of the Democratic primary is heavily favored to win November's general election.

Mayor John Street can't run because of term limits.

By LEO STRUPCZEWSKICourier-Post StaffMOORESTOWN
T. Milton Street, brother of the Philadelphia mayor and an announced candidate for the job, met with Moorestown police for nearly 25 minutes Wednesday, an official said, to discuss his arrest on Monday.
Street, along with his lawyer and friend, Teresa Reguna, met with the department's director, Harry Johnson, and Lt. Howard Mann.
"It went very well," Mann said. "I think he left satisfied."
Street had previously said he would sue the Moorestown police officer who arrested him Monday because he felt the timing of the arrest was politically motivated. The arrest warrants were originally issued in 2003-2004.

PHILLY POLITICS - Milton Street says he'll sue cop

The Clown in the news again...

Milton Street says he'll sue cop: "Philadelphia Mayor John Street's brother said he will sue a Moorestown police officer for political harassment over his own arrest Monday on traffic contempt warrants.

T. Milton Street, 67, also said he will ask today for a meeting with the Moorestown police administration to discuss his arrest.

Street was held for several hours Monday in the Burlington County Jail in Mount Holly before a friend posted $3,200 combined bail set by municipal judges in Moorestown and Pennsauken.

Street is to appear in Moorestown Municipal Court at 9 a.m. March 6 to answer a warrant issued by Moorestown for $2,500 worth of unpaid traffic tickets.

Street said he viewed his arrest as political harassment, especially since he announced he would be running for mayor of Philadelphia. He claimed his arrest Monday at a 7-Eleven in Moorestown was ordered by officer William Walsh although the arrest was made by another officer."

is AMERICA: WHEN ORDERING 'PLEASE SPEAK ENGLISH,'

English-only cheesesteak fight continues: "The battle over an English-only ordering policy at one of Philadelphia's signature cheesesteak joints is apparently far from over.
The city's human relations commission found evidence that the owner of Geno's Steaks may have discriminated against immigrants by posting a sign telling customers, 'This is AMERICA: WHEN ORDERING 'PLEASE SPEAK ENGLISH,' ' according to a letter sent to owner Joe Vento last week."
